I don’t know about you, but I like to observe life. It teaches me a lot. If you keep your eyes open and mind alert, you can learn a lot about blogging, SEO, and internet marketing. Just by observing an ordinary life around you.

Teaching Math to Third Graders

Once upon a time, not so long ago, I was teaching math to grade 3 kids. The topic was halving (or dividing by 2).

We had already studied dividing in the previous semester, so I expected them to have the skills. Now we had to use those skills in other, more complicated exercises.

It turned out, some of the students still quite did not get it. Before “division,” they had been strong in math. Now they were struggling.

I know, I know. It happened to me, too. When I was a kid, dividing was difficult for me. I was happy to add, subtract, and multiply. I was not so happy to divide. In fact, I struggled a lot. It took lots of time until I could finally master it.

So here I am now – My students are struggling with the topic.

So what do I do? Very Simple. I spend lots (LOTS) of time re-explaining it. Somehow it does not seem to sink in. Somehow these kids are just not able to crack it.

But then, you know what?… A miracle happens, and some of them do. They understand! They can divide. Wow!

And boy, if you could see their faces – they were just so happy!

Lesson #1: People Are On Different Capability Levels

So this is the situation. For the smartest kids, it is just a snap of fingers, and they understand. Very fast. Whatever exercise with little explanation you throw at them, they can do it.

As for the second group of kids, it takes longer to crack it. But at the end of the day, they can do it, too.

And then there is the third group of kids who find it tough to grasp it. They want it. I desperately want it. I can see it from their eyes. Somehow, they struggle to grasp it.

Lesson #2: The Race Is Not To The Swift…

…But To Those Who Endure To The End.

So what do I do with those less capable kids? I keep explaining.

The result?

Slowly but steadily, they begin to understand it. One by one, they start to crack the concept.

But pay attention; what if one of those kids said: „Ahh, I can’t do it. I’m not capable. These other children, yeah, they’re smart. But not me. No meaning to try anymore. I better give up.“

Guess what?

You give up trying; you lose it. It’s that simple. “Giving up is the only sure way to fail,” states Gena Showalter

When Things Get Hard…

The same principles apply to blogging, too. Some people are more gifted than others. Whatever they touch seems to turn into gold. And you are left wondering why it does not happen with you.

Now listen to this: Do you remember it was hard in your high school math class? Well, it’s hard here, too. It’s supposed to be hard. Or, as Darren Rowse has said: “99% of great bloggers are not awesome on day 1. Their awesomeness is the accumulation of the value they create over time.”

So it’s worth doing because it’s hard.

Failures are demoralizing. Other people’s rapid success can also be demoralizing as you may feel you are a loser. Also, you may begin to doubt your ability.

How I Failed My Exam… But Still Got a Degree.

Sometimes I feel like that. I am rather a slow learner. When I was a university student, I remember once my friend and I prepared for a certain examination. We had 2-3 days to prepare for it.

So what did we do? Very simple. We began to study.

We used the same amount of time. We studied the same books and even ate the same food.

Then we went to the examination.

He got „A. “

I… Failed.

Do you know how I felt?

…Exactly! I left the school devastated. Demoralized. Beaten down.

„Why it is so easy to him and so hard to me. It’s not fair. I studied as hard as I could… It’s just not fair.“

These were my thoughts that day.

But then, the race is not to the swift but to those who endure to the end.

As for today, I do have my degree, and he does not.

Why so?

Perseverance.

Regarding learning, I was slower, but I kept going. That’s how I got my degree.

How About Blogging?

It’s the same here.

Some peoples’ success is rapid. For others, it takes longer to understand SEO and how to drive traffic. For others, it takes even longer.

It’s hard.

But if you are persistent, if you keep learning and refuse to give up, finally, you will crack it. No question about it.

The only way you will not learn it is if you give up.

This young guy is just another example of how people make mistakes. They walk from failure to failure but keep learning, keep trying until they get it right. That is the normal learning process.

On the other hand, there are many more of those who have failed.

Who are they?

The ones who gave up.

But do you know that they don’t fail? They quit. They jump in with wrong expectations, hoping to get quick rich. After trying a few months, they give up and leave.

This fact tells you something.

Conclusion

It was probably hard in your math class, and it’s hard here too. Building a successful blog requires a lot of hard work and also many failures.

Yes, some people succeed faster than others, but don’t worry. As long as you refuse to give up and quit, you make progress. And as you move forward, you are going to see your business come together.
